Abstract

The science of sports training is an educational discipline aimed at helping athletes reach their best performance level in their respective sports. Achieving this level requires training based on scientific principles, especially in managing the components of training load, which represent the external stresses placed on the functional systems of the athlete’s body, leading to adaptations and, consequently, performance improvement. Physiology is one of the most important sciences used in training, as it studies the functions of the players’ organic and functional systems and how to control and influence them. There are clear interactions between training components and changes occurring in the heart, circulatory, respiratory, and neuromuscular systems, as well as biochemical changes in the muscles and blood. Among the most critical components of training load is training intensity, which is linked to many functional and biochemical variables and is essential for monitoring training load and the athletes’ performance development.
